Music History in the Making: The 11Eleven Project

For the first time in cinematic history a feature film is about to be released where ALL the footage and its entire soundtrack was recorded on 1 day. This film is the 11Eleven Project.

On 11/11/11 people from 179 countries picked up recording devices and expressed “a day in the lifeâ€. Storytellers could participate using music, sound, photography, film and text. Thousands of musicians picked up their instruments, warmed up their vocal chords and recorded their songs. These music tracks were then submitted to the 11Eleven Project, where they have been used as the ingredients that makeup the complete soundtrack of the feature film.

“This type of global collaboration is unprecedented. Never before in the history of cinema has everything been collected and recorded on one day from so many countries across the world†exclaimed Danielle Lauren, 11Eleven Project Creative Director. “There is something so sacred about music, it allows the soul to be penetrated. For a project such as this, where it was all about adding ones voice to the global narrative it was imperative that user generated music be includedâ€.

There was no shortage of options “From Hungarian hang drum instrumentals to electronica from India, the huge variety of music submitted was eclectic and exciting!†says Head of Audio and Production Management Alex McCann. Partnering with SoundCloud and engaging Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, social media ensured diversity of the entrants.

Steering away from the mainstream with a greater focus on “by the people for the people†the 11Eleven Project film has opted for a less traditional broadcast distribution. The film will be screened at a variety of different community spaces, universities, town halls, bars and cafes across the world on 11/11/12. “The 11Eleven Project was all about connecting communities†Ms Lauren said “We wanted people to watch the film with other members of their community. It’s about connecting with the human side of humanity.†This isn’t a project to be enjoyed in isolation – it’s to be enjoyed amongst people.

The 11Eleven Project Soundtrack will be available to purchase on iTunes from 11/11/12.
